Warns That Many Independent Limousine Operators May Be Forced to Close Down

ORLANDO, Fla., June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The Greater Orlando Livery Association (GOLA), the second-largest membership organization of limousine operators serving Central Florida, has called for an urgent meeting with the governing body of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) to discuss "unfair business practices occurring within the Orlando International Airport."

"We feel that these practices are negatively affecting independent transportation companies as well as other small business owners," GOLA's Board of Directors stated in a registered letter to the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.

The letter has been copied to Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer; Orange County Chairman of Commissioners Richard Crotty; Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau President Bill Peeper; and the Hon. Corrine Brown, Member of Congress, 3rd District, Florida.

"With a fleet of more than 600 vehicles that are registered and permitted to operate at the Orlando International Airport, our member companies have been faithfully serving the transportation needs of travelers to and from the Orlando airport for more than a decade," said GOLA president Randy Terranova.

"Now, without any warning or explanation, that access has been compromised and if it continues may cause many of our members who are small business owners to close down their operations," Terranova added.

"If we receive no response to our request to discuss our concerns, we're planning to vote next week on the appropriate follow-up measures we will need to take. In addition to the local transportation industry, we want to coordinate any actions we take with the wide range of small businesses in the travel and hospitality industry of Central Florida that are also being impacted," Terranova said.

GOLA members collectively represent the second-largest transportation service in and around Central Florida. Some 200 member companies operate a fleet of more than 600 vehicles registered and permitted at the Orlando International Airport. A pilot program introduced by GOLA in conjunction with the Orange County Convention Center has fostered zoning rules that have set new standards of excellence in transportation at the convention center.
