Greenfield Village Revs Up For The Old Car Festival's 55th Year
Continuing the Tradition - September 10 & 11
DEARBORN, Mich., Sept. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The weekend of September 10 & 11 will truly be paradise for any car or bicycle lover as Greenfield Village welcomes the Old Car Festival for its 55th year. This festival, the longest continuous running car show of its kind in the United States, will have more than 600 cars and bicycles from the 1890s through 1932 on display throughout the weekend.
Old 16, the 1906 Locomobile that won the Vanderbilt Cup in 1908 will be running daily in the Village during this weekend. The legendary racecar is the first American built car to win an international auto race. Also featured at the show are the 1922 Detroit Electric and a replica of Henry Ford's first car, the 1896 Quadricycle. Visitors to Greenfield Village during the Old Car Festival can view these extraordinary automobiles, as well as partake in events and activities focusing on cars manufactured in the 1930's and earlier.
-- Kids Driver's Ed: Kids can cruise the streets of Greenfield Village in
a pedal car version of the Model T.
-- Automotive Humor: Come see the lighter side of the automobile industry
as displayed in a 35-minute comedy revue called Simply Vaudeville at
the Town Hall throughout the weekend.
-- Car Games: Vintage vehicle owners can really find out who can drive
and who can't as they compete to see who has the best early motor
skills.
-- Assembly Line: Watch as a Model T is assembled right before your very
eyes, taking place at 12:30 and 3 p.m.
-- In Depth Analysis: Learn everything you have ever wanted to know about
historic automobiles during the lecture at Martha Mary Chapel at 1
p.m. Hosted by Steven Watts, author of, "The People's Tycoon: Henry
Ford and the American Century," who will also be doing a book signing
afterwards.
-- Car Pageant: At the end of the celebration, expert judges at the
Reviewing Stand to sweat over who in the Festival will have bragging
rights as "Best in Show"
The show runs from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The Old Car Festival is free with admission to Greenfield Village. Village admission is $20 adults, $19 seniors and $14 children. Children under 5 and members are admitted free.
Annual memberships start at $39 and include unlimited admission to Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village.
