Haggin Oaks Golf Super Shop Named National PING Fitter of the Year

PHOENIX, May 19 /PRNewswire/ — Club Fitting pioneer and leader PING announced today Haggin Oaks Golf Super Shop of Sacramento, California has been honored as the 2004 PING National Club Fitter of the Year. The company also announced 61 Regional PING Club Fitters of the year.

The award, first given in 1997, recognizes authorized PING Club Fitters who’ve demonstrated an ongoing commitment to custom fitting and the promotion of its benefits to golfers of all abilities. Haggin Oaks has been custom fitting PING(R) equipment since the early 1970′s.

“Haggin Oaks has earned industry-wide recognition in all facets of its business,” said John A. Solheim, PING Chairman & CEO. “When it comes to custom fitting, they deserve equal recognition. Ken Morton and his son, Ken Jr., understand the value PING custom fitting offers golfers. They make it a top priority and a point of differentiation for their customers. Their level of service and expertise is a model for all to follow.”

The relationship between PING and Haggin Oaks dates back to PING inventor Karsten Solheim’s early days of making and selling putters out of his garage in Redwood City, California.

“In today’s corporate age, it’s a wonderful thing to do business with a group that is family-held and run just like our company,” said Ken Morton Jr., Director of Retail & Marketing at Haggin Oaks. “Since our original head golf professional Tom LoPresti bought putters directly from Karsten Solheim on our main putting green in the early ’60′s, we’ve been a huge supporter of the Solheim family and PING Golf. In an industry that is too often caught up in the mass production of clubs, PING knows that it is still all about one thing — one golf club, built one at a time specifically for the needs of one golfer.”

Nearly 2,000 authorized PING Club Fitters were eligible for the award. Among the criteria considered by the selection committee are length of time in the program, commitment to on-going training, sustained sales growth and support of entire PING product line.

Nominating Haggin Oaks Golf Super Shop for the honor was Lee McCormick, PING Field Representative for northern California.

PING designs, manufactures and markets a complete line of golf equipment including metal woods, irons, putters and golf bags. The family-owned company was founded in 1959 in the garage of the late Karsten Solheim, a mechanical engineer with an extensive background in the aerospace and computer industries. His frustration with his putting inspired him to design his own putter, which created a “pinging” sound when striking a golf ball. This sound was the source of the name now synonymous with innovation, quality and service throughout the world of golf. Solheim and his company are credited with numerous innovations that became industry standards, including perimeter weighting, custom fitting and the use of investment casting in the manufacturing of golf clubs. His insistence on adhering to strict engineering principles and tight manufacturing tolerances raised the level of product performance and quality throughout the golf industry. Solheim is the only person to be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame as a golf club manufacturer. Today, the Phoenix-based company is under the direction of Solheim’s youngest son, John A. Solheim. PING game-improvement products can be found in more than 70 countries. For more information, visit www.pinggolf.com.
