Harrah’s Lake Charles Closes Due to Approach of Hurricane Rita

Employee Relief Efforts Continue Unabated in Louisiana, Mississippi

LAS VEGAS, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Harrah’s Lake Charles was closed Thursday morning due to the approach of Hurricane Rita, Harrah’s Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE:HET) said today.

Harrah’s Lake Charles includes a 257-room hotel and two casinos totaling 60,000 square feet. Approximately 1,400 people work at the property. Harrah’s plans to resume normal operations at Harrah’s Lake Charles as soon as it is safe and feasible to do so.

Despite the approach of the storm, Harrah’s is continuing its efforts to provide relief and recovery services to the nearly 8,000 employees displaced by Hurricane Katrina, which hit the Gulf Coast on Aug. 29. Harrah’s has since implemented a comprehensive infrastructure to provide relief and recovery services to its employees, including:

* Employee Information Centers in Gulfport, Miss.; Baton Rouge, La.; and
Lake Charles, La. These centers provide a number of services to
displaced employees, including on-site, primary health care services
(Gulfport and Baton Rouge only); information on compensation,
benefits and available jobs throughout the Harrah’s network; and
listings of available shelters in the region.

* Temporary relief shelters for employees in Tunica, Miss., Lake Charles
and Bossier City, La.

* The Harrah’s Employee Relief Hotline (877-422-7466). All affected
employees are asked to call the toll-free number so they can be
accounted for and directed to relief services.

As a safety precaution, Harrah’s has closed its Information Center and employee shelter in Lake Charles. Employees who were staying there were redirected to nearby shelters further from the area where Rita is expected to make landfall.

The public can assist Harrah’s employees by visiting the company’s Web site — www.harrahs.com – for additional information on how to help.
