Hoy Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
Will publish a series of articles highlighting Latino culture, history and community
CHICAGO, Sept. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Hoy kicked off Hispanic Heritage month today with the publication of the first of a four-part series highlighting important Hispanic cultural events, history and accomplishments. Part one of this series in today's Hoy celebrates Mexico and Central America independence; features an interview with Nobel Peace Prize winner and Guatemalan civil rights activist Rigoberta Menchu; and profiles the growing Central American communities in Chicago and Los Angeles, along with the expanding Mexican community in New York. Hispanic Heritage coverage will appear throughout Hoy and in special Friday sections during the month.
The series will include interviews with Hispanic cultural leaders such as Laura Restrepo, winner of the Alfaguara literary award, Latin Jazz musician Ray Barretto and salsa crooner Cheo Feliciano.
"Hoy strives daily to craft a newspaper that speaks to the needs and interests of the Latino market," said Javier Aldape, Hoy Editor and Vice President/Product and Audience Development. "Our special coverage for Hispanic Heritage month just adds to our daily goal of providing Latino readers stories that reflect their life and rich culture."
Later in the series, Hoy will take a look at recent trends in Chicano art and the growing reggaeton movement, as well as Hispanics' increased presence in the professional sports world. The series concludes with profiles of Hispanics who have made an impact in the business world.
In addition to its newspaper coverage, Hoy will be participating in local Hispanic Heritage Month community festivals and events in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. Readers can also find Hispanic Heritage Month information and stories posted on Hoy's website, http://www.hoyinternet.com/ .
