Secret Garden Tour And Downtown Art & Antique Walk Showcase Art, Antiques And Natural Beauty

Historic Downtown Wilmington's vibrant riverfront offers more than 200 shops, restaurants, attractions, galleries, museums, and theaters. On September 8 and 9, the Historic District provides a charming backdrop for two events that complement the destination's architecture, history, and natural beauty: the 3rd Annual Secret Garden Tour (September 8-9) and the 5th Annual Art & Antique Walk (September 9).

Thirteen of Old Wilmington's private gardens will be on display during the Secret Garden Tour. These hidden gardens complement beautifully restored homes that exude the charm of Old Wilmington. On Friday and Saturday morning at 10am until 4pm, visitors are invited to stroll around the Historic District and tour elegantly manicured gardens, many of which have never before been open to the public. Tours are held rain or shine on Friday (Sept. 8) and Saturday (Sept. 9). Secret Garden tickets cost $15 each (until Sept. 1) or $18 each (after Sept. 1). Bag lunches, catered by Jester's Java, are available (at a moderate cost) in Victoria's Tea Room at the Latimer House. All proceeds benefit the Latimer House Gardens and the Lower Cape Fear Historical Society. In Wilmington, tickets are available at the Latimer House Museum, The Fisherman's Wife, Everyday Gourmet, The Plant Place, Transplanted Garden, Ladybugs, Barnes & Noble, and NewCastle Antique Center. Locations outside Wilmington include: Curb Appeal (Southport) and Linda's Fashions (Carolina Beach). Tours begin at the Latimer House Museum (126 S. Third Street). For more information on the Secret Garden Tour, please call 910-762-0492 or visit http://www.latimerhouse.org.

On Saturday, September 9, from 10am until 5pm, downtown merchants will host the 5th Annual Art & Antique Walk, a juried show featuring more than 40 area vendors. Treasures on display along Historic Wilmington's Front Street include one-of-a-kind paintings, photographs, handmade jewelry, sculptures and antiques from New Hanover, Pender, and Brunswick counties. This year's event includes an Emerging Artists area that features up-and-coming artists. The event is free. Rain date is Sunday, September 10. The Art & Antique Walk is presented by Downtown Business Alliance (DBA) and Town & Country Real Estate. Front Street will be closed to vehicular traffic during the event and free parking is available in nearby City parking decks. For more information on the Art & Antique Walk please call 910-251-0727, or visit http://www.dbawilmington.com .
