The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia Celebrates Valentine's Day by Inviting Couples to Marry Inside the Exhibit
PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- The Franklin Institute is once again searching for couples to exchange or renew their wedding vows at its 2nd annual Heart Ceremony during the Giant Heart's 51st anniversary celebration on Friday, February 10, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. (Pre-registration is required. See below for details.)
The ceremony is part of The Franklin Institute's annual Valentine's Day and Giant Heart Anniversary celebration, a weekend-long event that includes romantic and heart healthy activities for children and adults alike. Last year, more than 200 local people became a part of Franklin Institute history. Sixteen couples were joined in marriage and more than 100 couples renewed their wedding vows in front of the Philadelphia landmark. Many participants from the inaugural ceremony are expected to take part once again, including Fran and Cindy Sauler, newlyweds who participated in the wedding ceremony. "Fran and I were wondering if there was going to be an anniversary! I waited 24 years ... I am very happy now, and we look forward to renewing our vows!"
The Franklin Institute's Giant Walk-Through Heart was originally built in 1953 as a temporary exhibit. Originally scheduled to remain open for only several months, the Heart's immense popularity convinced the Institute to make the exhibit permanent. After undergoing 6 months of intensive renovations, "The Giant Heart: A Healthy Interactive Exhibit" presented by Merck re-opened on October 1, 2004 and remains the museum's most popular exhibit.
Located in the heart of Philadelphia, The Franklin Institute is a nationally respected pioneer in the development of interactive science exhibits. The Franklin Institute is Pennsylvania's most visited museum. In 2004, The Franklin Institute experienced its best attendance year in history, with more than one million visitors.
