Gordie Howe – Mr. Hockey(R) – Will Appear at Pucks, Putters and Poker at Foxwoods Resort Casino

COLUMBIA, Md., July 25 /PRNewswire/ — Game Time Marketing, LLC, in conjunction with Next Shift Enterprises, LLC, is proud to announce that Mr. Hockey(R), Gordie Howe(R) will headline the star-studded lineup of present and former hockey players slated to take part in Pucks, Putters and Poker.

Pucks, Putters and Poker is a week-long series of events from July 25-31 at Foxwoods Resort Casino that connects athletes, celebrities and poker professionals with businesspeople, sports fans and poker aficionados in a fun, exciting and interactive atmosphere. It is also designed to raise funds for four national charities — the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research; the Carson Kolzig Foundation, the Garth Brooks Teammates for Kids Foundation and the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation.

Mr. Hockey will serve as the host for Friday night’s “Weekend Welcome Reception,” which will follow that morning’s star-studded Celebrity Golf Tournament at the North Course of Foxwoods’ acclaimed Lake of Isles golfing facility. The “Weekend Welcome Reception” will also feature a charity auction that promises to offer up a collection of unique sporting memorabilia.

Throughout his career, and during his retirement, Howe has been among the game’s greatest ambassadors, both approachable and humble in spreading his love of the sport that made him famous.

“To have Mr. Hockey agree to join the Pucks, Putters and Poker event is truly humbling,” said Pete LeBoutillier, the business director for Next Shift Enterprises, LLC. “His special presence further underscores the quality event we believe we are presenting in an effort to raise money for several worthwhile charities, as well as have some fun. It is an added bonus that this event is taking place at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut, so close to the Hartford area that Howe called home for the last three years of his illustrious career. His return here is a great gift for the loyal hockey fans throughout Connecticut.”

Howe is also excited about his return to Connecticut.

“It is a pleasure to be able to take part in this exciting event and help to raise funds and awareness for these four deserving charities,” said Mr. Hockey. “I am looking forward to seeing many of the loyal fans that were so good to the Howe family during our stay in Hartford. I expect to see many of those familiar faces — which supported the Whalers with unrivaled enthusiasm — during my time at the Pucks, Putters and Poker event.

During his unprecedented career, Howe appeared in 32 pro seasons, scored 1,071 career goals, garnered 2,589 career points and played in an astounding 29 All-Star games. Many experts still contend he is the greatest all-around player in the game’s history.

Many other legendary NHL players will be joining Mr. Hockey at Pucks, Putters and Poker events, including several that have claimed the Stanley Cup. The list of Cup winners is headlined by Howe, Ken Morrow, Gord Lane, the founder of Next Shift Enterprises, LLC, and Bob Nystrom — each of whom has claimed the trophy four times. Howe and Gillies (2002) are in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Morrow, a member of the USA’s “Miracle on Ice” team that won a gold medal in 1980, is in the United States Hockey Hall of Fame and is one of only a handful of players to win a gold medal and a Stanley Cup in the same year.

Also, there will be an impressive collection of current professionals on- hand for the weekend activities, headlined by 2004 Stanley Cup winner Martin St. Louis of the Tampa Bay Lightning. He will be joined by current Boston Bruin Sergei Samsonov, as well as the Islanders’ Rick DiPietro, the Rangers’ Darius Kasparaitis and Philadelphia’s Robert Esche.

“We believe we have assembled one of the greatest gatherings of hockey players in recent years,” said LeBoutillier. “As a result, Pucks, Putters and Poker will provide a once-in-a-lifetime experience for any hockey fan, or sports fan for that matter.”
