Room Bookings Already Surpass $102 Million
DENVER, CO — (MARKET WIRE) — 12/20/2005 — Hyatt opened its 216th hotel in the heart of downtown Denver on December 20, 2005. The 1,100-room Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center is the largest hotel built under the Hyatt name in more than two decades. The opening of the new 37-story hotel will help position Denver into one of the country’s top convention destinations.
“Denver and the Colorado Rocky Mountains have long been a favored destination for leisure travelers, but with the recent expansion of the Colorado Convention Center, and now the grand opening of Hyatt Regency Denver, we expect Denver to quickly become a favorite location for conventions and meetings from around the world,” says Bill Mosher, chief executive officer of the Denver Convention Center Hotel Authority, owners of the new Hyatt Regency Denver.
As the only hotel adjacent to the Colorado Convention Center, Hyatt Regency Denver is in a prime location to accommodate convention guests. The hotel brings an additional 60,600 square feet of meeting space to the Denver area, including two large ballrooms. The 30,000 square foot Centennial Ballroom is the largest in the state of Colorado and can seat up to 2,500 guests or be broken out into smaller events. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and a 30-foot high open ceiling with glass light fixtures in the shape of mountain peaks, the space gives meeting planners and production companies the ability to suspend audio visual equipment, opening up room for additional seating or exhibit space. The second ballroom is the 14,000 square foot Capital Ballroom and features a 22-foot high open ceiling with elegant Italian hand-blown glass light fixtures.
While a majority of hotels house their meeting space below ground, all of Hyatt Regency Denver’s meeting space is located on the third and fourth floors, providing guests views of the Rocky Mountains and the Colorado Convention Center through the floor-to-ceiling windows. The hotel’s smaller meeting rooms are designed to provide maximum flexibility. Movable air walls can be manipulated to accommodate large meetings and then be repositioned for small break out groups. Other amenities include an infrared hearing impaired system, LCD displays outside each meeting room, electronic signage in common areas, high speed wired and wireless Internet access, video conferencing capabilities, electronic locks and a mechanically operated Mecco Shade system with blackout capability. Hyatt Regency’s boardrooms are equipped with flat screen televisions, electronic overhead screens and built-in phone and data hook ups.

The $285 million hotel is the first downtown Denver high-rise built in 25 years. The top of the hotel features a 10-story beacon of light that will become a landmark on the city’s skyline. The hotel’s convenient downtown location offers easy access to Denver’s burgeoning nightlife and restaurant scene. Dining options for guests who choose to stay on-site include the 300-seat Altitude restaurant, which can be adapted for smaller, more intimate affairs; Strata Bar, which showcases an extensive collection of Colorado minerals; Peaks Rooftop Lounge with one of the best views in the city; Perks Coffee Bar and room service, both of which are available 24-hours a day.
Keeping with Hyatt’s trendsetting approach to designing and operating hotels that embody the ambiance of the city in which it operates in, the new Hyatt Regency Denver design reflects an urban downtown feel while incorporating elements of the Colorado outdoors. “The hotel gives guests a glimpse into the beauty of Colorado’s plains and mountains,” says Schafer. Generous use of natural stone, warm colors and natural light throughout the hotel, along with the extensive use of LCD screens displaying images of the Colorado landscape, and $2.5 million of original art including six bronze climbers scaling a 35-foot limestone wall, further achieves the goal of bringing the outdoors inside.
The hotel offers cutting-edge technology, while freeing up time for the staff to focus on providing hands-on personal service. Marking a first for the Hyatt brand, Hyatt Regency Denver features electronic kiosks in the front desk that are designed to ease check in and check out during busy convention registration times or for hotel guests with tight travel deadlines. The hotel also has several mobile kiosks that can be positioned near a meeting room or a restaurant to make it easier for large events to check their guests in or out. In the near future, the kiosks will be able to print an airline boarding pass for guests checking out and will soon offer guests the option of checking in via the Internet or personal digital assistant. Hyatt Regency Denver also offers high speed Internet access throughout the hotel, including wireless access from the hotel’s public spaces, and a full service FedEx Kinko’s business center.
Guests can select from 72 suites, including hospitality suites with outdoor terraces. Each room features signature Grand Beds® with down blankets and pillows, flat-screen televisions with cable movie channels, in-room pay-per-view movies, video messaging and account review and check out, operable picture windows, wired and wireless Internet access, mobile work desk and ergonomically designed desk chairs. Many of the rooms provide guests with unobstructed, panoramic mountain views. The hotel also features a 6,700 square foot health club with over 100 pieces of cardio and fitness equipment, a 50-foot indoor lap pool, a sauna, a steam room and a sun deck.
