Offers visitors a little slice of true island life

NEW YORK, NY, January 2006 --- The Moonsplash Music Festival will host the first Anguillian Cultural and Arts Fair on Saturday, March 18, 2006 providing visitors a little slice of island life and a true taste of local fare and customs. The family oriented event will celebrate Anguilla’s unique relationship with the sea and rich tradition of boat racing.

Anguillians have long looked to the sea for their livelihood and sustenance, and their boat racing history dates back to the dawn of the 20th Century, when worker-transporting schooners and fishing boats would transform their homeward journeys into fun and competitive races. Today, it is the national sport.

Anguilla’s top historic racing boats will be on display throughout the island’s capital. There will be a free-dive spear fishing competition with prizes awarded for the best traditional spear gun design and the most caught fish. Much of the fish caught will be served Anguillian style during the fair prepared by the island’s acclaimed chefs.

The fair will also feature local cooking competitions with prizes for the best pea soup and best conch dumplings. Local art students will display their works and compete for awards for quality and creativity.

The First Annual Moonsplash Cultural and Arts Fair will be held on the grounds of Cable and Wireless and many of the Moonsplash Festival performers will be in attendance. Admission to the fair is free.

Major sponsors for Moonsplash 2006 include the Government of Anguilla and the Anguilla Tourist Board, Cap Juluca Hotel, Cable & Wireless, and Temenos Anguilla, a St. Regis Resort.
