Jamaica Open for Business After Passing of Hurricane Emily
KINGSTON, Jamaica, Sunday, July 17, 2005 -- The Hon. Aloun N'Dombet-Assamba, Minister of Industry and Tourism, reported this morning that Hurricane Emily has now passed Jamaica and the Hurricane Warning has been officially lifted island-wide. All tourism regions have reported little or no damage.
Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston is now open, as of 9:00 a.m. today (10:00 a.m. EDT) and Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay reopened last evening, Saturday, July 16 at 8:00 p.m. (9:00 p.m. EDT)
According to the operators of both airports, flights are being reinstated based on the operational circumstances of each individual airline.
"Jamaica is thankful once again for being spared the brunt of Hurricane Emily," said Hon. Aloun N'Dombet-Assamba, Minister of Industry and Tourism. "All tourism regions are open for business and ready to receive guests."
As always, travelers are urged to contact their travel agent or airline to reconfirm all information concerning travel plans.
