Following the Jewish Trail in Berlin The Ritz-Carlton, Berlin Offers Special Package to Trace Jewish History
BERLIN, GERMANY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 06/02/2005 -- The Ritz-Carlton, Berlin is now offering a special two night package which invites guests to trace the origins of Jewish heritage in the capital city of Germany. Available from 345 Euros, per person, the package includes a visit to the recently opened "Memorial of The Murdered Jewish in Europe," created by architect Peter Eisenman, as one of the highlights of the unique genealogical experience.
"Berlin has one of Europe's largest Jewish communities, and it is reflected in the vibrant cultural and religious offerings available to residents and visitors to the city," said Rainer Burkle, area vice president and general manager for The Ritz-Carlton. "We believe many people will be interested in coming to the capital city to trace the roots and traditions of the Jewish faith."
Guests reserving the package will be welcomed to the Potsdamer Platz luxury hotel with a commemorative book, "The Jewish Berlin," a historic look back at the people, places and things which affected life for generations of Jewish residents. A 90 minute guided tour begins at the front of the hotel, and brings visitors to the new memorial which has been hailed by architectural critics as an inspirational and ground breaking work of major significance. Following the tour of the memorial, the path continues to the former "Scheunenviertel," a residential neighborhood which was home to many Eastern European Jews, known as Ashkenazim. The walk continues to the Central Consistory of Jews in Germany, which for more than 50 years has overseen the care and maintenance of Jewish heritage sites in Berlin.
The guided tour of Berlin's Jewish heritage also includes stops at the cemetery at "Grosse Hamburger Strasse." Built in 1672 and destroyed during World War II, it is a well known and important place in the annals of the city's past.
Day two of the package at The Ritz-Carlton, Berlin includes a tour of architect Daniel Libeskind's acclaimed Jewish Museum, which traces the Jewish religion from the Middle Ages to the modern era. The striking building is considered to be one of Berlin's most impressive contemporary buildings, with exceptional exhibits and interactive displays detailing thousands of years of heritage and history.
The package offered by The Ritz-Carlton, Berlin includes overnight, deluxe accommodations, a three course meal in the hotel's Brasserie Desbrosses, daily breakfast, all entrance fees and tour costs. The entire package may be reserved at a cost of 490 Euros, single occupancy, or 345 Euros per person, double.
