Krewe of Aesclepius Moves Fat Tuesday Parade

Feb. 1, Claude the Cajun Crawfish to predict Mardi Gras weather

The Krewe of Aesclepius has moved its Fat Tuesday parade to the Louisiana Boardwalk in Bossier City. This last hooray will start at 6:30 p.m. and end at midnight, Feb. 28.

The parade will start at the south end of the Louisiana Boardwalk, a riverfront entertainment complex, near the entrance to the Louisiana Wildlife Carousel and wind through the facility’s streets in convertibles, other vehicles, floats and the trolley, with high school bands participating. It will end at Bass Pro Shops.

This year’s theme is “Once Upon a Time in Aesclepius”, the celebration of famous children’s stories. Characters will include Sandman, the Big Bad Wolf, and the king and queen of hearts.

All krewes that celebrate Mardi Gras in the Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas region have been invited to place floats in the procession. After the parade, participants will head to Saddle Ridge in Louisiana Boardwalk to join the Upstate Mardi Gras Festival and introduce krewe royalty one last time.

At 11:30 p.m., Aesclepius will host the annual Mardi Gras closing ceremony in the middle of the Texas Street bridge. Royalty will toast the season, the krewes and each other to close Mardi Gras 2006. Local clergy will bless and administer ashes for those wishing to take part in the Ash Wednesday ceremony.
