Annual Event Includes Fun for the Whole Family; Proceeds to Benefit Animal Health Complex
ROYAL OAK, Mich., Aug. 30 /PRNewswire/ — Thousands of Detroit Zoo supporters will lace up their running shoes and head over to the Zoo on Saturday, September 10, 2005, for the ninth-annual LaSalle Bank Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo (Standard Federal Bank will become LaSalle Bank on September 12). LaSalle Bank is in the second year of a five-year agreement to be the title sponsor for the event. Proceeds from the Run Wild event benefit the Zoo’s Animal Health Complex.
New this year, The LaSalle Bank Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo offers a 10K run and a redesigned 5K race route along with the 1-mile non-competitive walk. The 5K and 10K runs begin at the Zoo’s Ten Mile Entrance and wind through the streets surrounding the Zoo. Walkers have the opportunity to view favorite animal exhibits as they stroll through Zoo grounds. LaSalle Bank is providing cash prizes, totaling $10,000, to be awarded to the top five male and female runners of both events. Medals will be given to the top male and female runners in various age groups.
Participants have the opportunity to raise additional funds for the Detroit Zoo through the Friends of the Wild program. The top three individuals who collect the most funds will receive LaSalle Bank Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo gift packs.
“LaSalle Bank’s sponsorship is helping us in our mission to provide the best care possible for our animals at the Detroit Zoological Institute,” said Chief Veterinarian Dr. Ann Duncan. “Of course, the bank’s racing expertise is playing a role in making Run Wild better than ever.”
Chicago-based LaSalle Bank (Michigan-based LaSalle Bank’s sister organization) owns and operates two of the world’s largest road races, The LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon and The LaSalle Bank Shamrock Shuffle 8K.
The event will begin at 8 a.m. with the 5K run. The 10K run will follow at 8:45, and the untimed, non-competitive 1-mile walk will begin at 9 a.m. On-line registration for the event is available at http://www.runwilddetroitzoo.com/ , and registration will also be available at the Zoo Membership Tent on September 10.
