First-Ever Williamsport Grand Slam Parade Kicks Off Little League World Series Tomorrow, August 18
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Williamsport, Pa. is well-known as the birthplace of Little League Baseball and as the exclusive site for the Little League World Series since 1959. This year, Williamsport will add another first to its history - the "Williamsport Grand Slam Parade," the first-ever parade commemorating the start of the Little League World Series.
The Williamsport Grand Slam Parade will take place on the streets of downtown Williamsport prior to the first day of the Little League World Series, on August 18, starting at 6 p.m. It will feature Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell, along with Little League players from across the world, the famous Williamsport Marching Millionaires Band, the Pennsylvania National Guard Honor Guard, and several other notable local organizations. The parade will conclude in a festival and fireworks display orchestrated to symphony music.
With the Little League World Series fast approaching, August 19-28, 2005, and major and minor league baseball season in full swing, now is the best time to experience baseball - its past and its future - in Pennsylvania.
South Williamsport has been home to the Little League World Series since 1959. Annually, it draws 16 different Little League teams from around the world, 350,000 spectators and international attention and acclaim.
