Maine Winter Resort Announces Country Christmas Events
Craft Fairs, free wagon rides, free skiing and snowboarding, theme wreath auction, restaurant recipe sampling, Santa arrival, 19th century candle light Christmas celebration, living nativity and demonstration days at alpine and nordic ski centers in the western Maine resort town of Bethel.
Bethel, Maine (PRWEB) November 18, 2006 -- A resort community known for building the world's tallest snowman, for winter recreation-alpine and Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and sled dog trips, and most recently as the filming location for the DVD "The Twelve Dogs of Christmas", will celebrate the holiday season every weekend from November 24 to December 17.
On Friday, November 24, a hometown craft and wares fair with locally crafted jewelry, quilts, wooden-ware, pottery, knitting, photography, basketry, candles, stained glass, and alpaca fiber products will be held at the Bethel Inn Conference Center. The weekend of November 25 and 26 is the Annual Demo Days at Sunday River Ski Resort. Skiers and snowboarders can try out the latest equipment from twenty different companies. The Bethel Rotary Club sponsors an all-you-can-eat, breakfast buffet at Gould Academy Sunday November 26.
On November 30, the 1925 silent film "Phantom of the Opera" accompanied by the Alloy Orchestra musical ensemble will be presented at Gould Academy.
Saturday, December 2 is the Taste of Bethel and Theme Wreath Auction. Local restaurants will serve samples of their signature dishes including soups and chowders, desserts, appetizers and beverages. Area businesses will auction wreaths themed to their trades and industries. The events take place at Telstar High School. Santa arrives late afternoon to light the town's thirty-foot, blue spruce Christmas tree, located on the town common.
Sunday, December 3, is the Annual Santa Sunday at Sunday River Ski Resort. Skiers dressed in a full Santa suit will receive free skiing and riding that day.
Thursday, December 7, the Bethel Historical Society will host "Christmas with The Masons". The Mason House period rooms will be decorated in traditional nineteenth century style and illuminated with candles.
December 16 is Nordic Demo Day at the Sunday River Cross Country Ski Center. Cross Country skiers have free use of demonstration equipment from Fischer and Karhu.
The Living Nativity Scene on the town common is scheduled for the evening of December 17.
Christmas tree trimming and caroling is set for CHristmas eve at the Bethel Inn Resort.
Every weekend during the period there will be free horse-drawn wagon rides to view the town's store-front holiday decorations, shopping specials and open houses.
