Balearic Islands Debuts Five Star Products to U.S.
Manhattan Events Showcase The Islands' Wealth
NEW YORK, June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- With an eye towards global distribution, the Government of the Balearic Islands introduces its Five Star products to the United States. Celebrations of the jewelry, fashion, food and wine products will take place this week in Manhattan. On June 9, top designers will showcase the best of their Fall 2005 collection at the Altman Building; and on June 10, a classical music and dance program followed by an extraordinary food and wine tapas reception will be presented at the New-York Historical Society.
The Islands, long known for their tourist appeal, Mallorcan pearls and leather goods, boast boutique, high-quality producers of fashion, shoes, food products including cheese, olive oil, fleur de sel, wine, textiles, ceramic and glassware.
History and Commerce Make Beautiful Music Together
Expected to attend the festivities are high-level Balearic officials including Josep Juan Cardona, the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy for the Balearic Islands and Bartolome Bestard, U.S. Consul to the Balearic Islands. "The Five Star Products are not just the authentication of origin of any manufacturing process. The unique products bearing this label speak of a people's way of being, our culture and a unique piece of our history," states Minister Juan Cardona.
The fashion show will feature many top designers including Sebastia Pons, Tolo Crespi, Xisco Caimari, Apache Cowboy, Tony Mora, Camper shoes, Perlas Orquidea and Clara Bijoux. The Historical Society event will feature a special performance by renowned Mallorca soprano Isabel Rossello and baritone Lluis Sintes. The cuisine will be prepared by one of Mallorca's rising star chefs, Bartolome Trias. Chef Trias will also present a cooking demonstration from 1pm-3pm on June 8 at Williams Sonoma Columbus Circle which is open to the public.
The Balearic Islands located off the east coast of Spain, became an autonomous province in 1983 whose main islands are Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera. An ideal staging post between Europe and Africa, these islands are rich in natural treasures and fascinating historical sites.
