One of Canada's Great Treasures
History Comes Alive At The Manitoba Museum...from dinosaurs to the wonders of outer space, we have it all
The Manitoba Museum
Featuring The Hudson’s Bay Company Gallery
The Manitoba Museum is our province's largest cultural attraction, hosting more than 250,000 visitors annually. The Museum features an ever-changing variety of touring and specialty exhibits, as well as a Planetarium, an interactive Science Gallery, and nine permanent galleries that span the length of four football fields.
The Museum’s collections reflect the heritage of Manitoba and other regions of the world. From the moment visitors step into the Museum’s Orientation Gallery, with its dramatic recreation of an early bison hunt, they become immersed in a journey through Manitoba’s fascinating past, present, and future.
Its dramatic walk-through settings make The Manitoba Museum truly unique. Visitors can board The Nonsuch, a 17th century full-size replica ship, or travel back in time as they explore the Urban Gallery. The Earth History Gallery reveals some of the region’s most spectacular buried treasure, including the world’s largest trilobite fossil, which landed the museum’s Paleontology curator a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Some of the Museum’s most prized artifacts are on display in the Hudson's Bay Company Gallery. Capturing the essence of fur trade life during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, this gallery showcases the treasures, relics and trade goods of the era. From navigational tools and beautiful Inuit art to an authentic 13-metre York boat, the HBC Gallery celebrates the remarkable legacy of the fur trade. The Manitoba Museum is the recipient of the Michelin Green Guide’s top award – a designation of ‘Worth the Trip’, the Province of Manitoba’s Tourism Service Excellence Award, the Attractions Canada Prix Award (provincial) for indoor attractions, and the Canadian Tourism Commission’s ‘Win with Winter in Canada’ award for the ‘Great Canadian Fur Trade Tour’.
