In Historic Marmon Automobile Showroom

CHICAGO, March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- A landmark automobile showroom is being redesigned to bring even more enjoyment to Chicago's booming South Loop area. A local events entrepreneur for nearly 20 years, Janet A. Conner is building The Marmon Grand -- an upscale banquet and meeting venue in Chicago's landmark Motor Row District and inside the former home of the Marmon automobile showroom at 2230 S. Michigan Ave. Conner, president of Events Unlimited, Inc., plans to open The Marmon Grand banquet facility this spring.

One car in the Marmon line, the Wasp, is the legendary winner of the first Indianapolis 500-Mile Race (in 1911). "The history here makes this project even more exciting. Like the Marmon Wasp, I expect The Marmon Grand will be known for style, innovation and award-winning service," Conner explains. "During the reconstruction, I came to really appreciate the history of our converted showroom and what it meant to Chicago car shoppers during the early 1900s. Now, the city says this area is the largest early automobile row that's still standing in the U.S. That's a really special location for Chicago."

Conner also treated her event-planning peers, clients, family and friends to a well-attended "sneak peek." She says The Marmon Grand facility will feature a 1920s-style decor, a grand piano in the main dining area, a private dining room, an on-site kitchen, a management office and more.

"For more than a decade, I've had a dream to provide a grand service to clients and options beyond having to drive near or outside the city limits just to host or attend an affordable event. After the hotels, what is there? Now Chicagoans and others will have a unique solution -- an attractive option that is also conveniently located near downtown," says Conner.
