KANSAS CITY, Mo., Oct. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Midwest Airlines (AMEX:MEH) today announced the December 15 launch of new nonstop service between Kansas City and Tampa, Fla., as well as added frequency on its popular service between Kansas City and Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

The new once-daily Tampa service is in addition to existing connecting service via Milwaukee. The added Ft. Lauderdale service is in addition to a daily nonstop flight from Kansas City as well as existing service via Milwaukee.

"It's always a pleasure to expand service, because it means even more travelers will have the opportunity to experience 'The best care in the air,'" said Scott R. Dickson, senior vice president and chief marketing officer. "We're committed to providing Kansas City travelers with a superior, competitively priced product, great customer service, and convenient schedules to the cities they want to visit."

Today's announcement is part of a series of product and service enhancements focusing on customer value and convenience that America's top- rated carrier is launching throughout 2005. The airline previously announced the launch of nonstop service from Kansas City to Orlando, Pittsburgh and San Diego beginning October 31. Including the new service, Midwest Airlines will offer nonstop service from Kansas City to 12 destinations with 23 departures each weekday, and connecting service via Milwaukee to dozens more.

The new flights will operate as Midwest Airlines Signature Service, which provides travelers with the comfort and space they need to work or relax. Signature Service is offered on new Boeing 717 jet aircraft -- featuring two- by-two wide leather seats with extra legroom and adjustable headrests and footrests. The airline's trademark baked-onboard chocolate chip cookies are featured on most flights, along with buy-onboard meals.

"We are gratified by the positive response we've received to our steady service expansions in Kansas City in recent years," Dickson said. He pointed out that Midwest Airlines recorded an 8.2% market share in Kansas City in August -- up from 4.3% in the same month a year earlier. In August 2005, Midwest Airlines carried a total of 35,053 Kansas City passengers, up 86% from 18,801 passengers in August 2004.

In July, the readers of Travel+Leisure magazine named Midwest Airlines "2005 World's Best Domestic Airline" -- the seventh time in the 10 years the award has been given. In October, the 2005 Conde Nast Traveler Business Travel Awards poll recognized Midwest Airlines -- the eighth year in a row. Midwest Airlines placed first in three of the six categories for single-class domestic airlines: Seat Comfort/Legroom, Food/Beverages and Cabin Service. Midwest Airlines also placed a strong second in the overall domestic single- class airline category.
