Midwest Airlines Updates Hurricane Katrina Travel Policy, Supports Disaster Recovery Efforts
MILWAUKEE, Sept. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Midwest Airlines (NYSE:MEH) today updated its Hurricane Katrina travel policy. The airline is also supporting disaster recovery efforts by working with relief organizations and providing opportunities for its customers and employees to help.
Midwest Airlines has suspended travel to or from New Orleans indefinitely. Customers holding tickets for travel to that city may rebook their travel to another city and the airline will waive any administrative fees. Alternatively, those customers may request a voucher for future travel or ask for a refund. Midwest Airlines also said it is working with relief organizations to provide deeply discounted travel to their employees and volunteers involved in the disaster recovery efforts. Additionally, the airline has made aircraft available and is exploring opportunities to provide reduced-rate charter flights to fly relief workers and supplies to areas impacted by the hurricane.
The airline is also encouraging its customers and employees to help. Members of the airline's frequent flyer program may donate miles for use by the American Red Cross by logging on to http://www.midwestmiles.com/. And those who use their Midwest Airlines MasterCard to donate to the American Red Cross or Salvation Army through October 31 will receive 500 bonus Midwest Miles. Midwest Airlines employees throughout the country are also assisting in the relief efforts by organizing a series of activities to collect donations of cash and supplies to aid those in need.
Midwest Airlines features jet service throughout the United States, including Milwaukee's most daily nonstop flights and best schedule to major destinations. Skyway Airlines, Inc. -- its wholly owned subsidiary -- operates as Midwest Connect, which offers connections to Midwest Airlines as well as point-to-point service between select markets on regional jet and turboprop aircraft.
