Monterey Wine Country Announces a Three-City Tasting Tour in Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Monterey

A Collaboration of More Than 25 Monterey County Vintners, and Winery Principals, Under the Direction of the Monterey County Vintners and Growers Association (MCVGA), Take Their Award-Winning Wines on the Road, and Also Recognizes the Influence of the Local Monterey Market

MONTEREY, Calif., Feb. 15 /PRNewswire/ — Monterey County Vintners and Growers Association (MCVGA) is taking its award-winning wines on the road this March. The Association is pleased to announce a collaboration of more than 25 wineries from Monterey County in a wine showcase that will touch down in three cities for the 4th Annual Monterey Wine Country Spring Tour. The three-city tour, targeted to media, trade and consumers alike, will commence on March 2nd in Scottsdale, proceed to Las Vegas on March 9th and embrace the local market with a final showcase in Monterey on March 21. Winemakers and winery principals will be on hand in each of the markets to represent their brands. Proceeds from the tour will benefit regional scholarship funds for students seeking higher education in the hospitality industry.

“We’re now in our fourth year showcasing the bounty and quality of Monterey County wines”, said Rhonda Motil, Executive Director of MCVGA. “With the caliber of restaurants in both Scottsdale and Phoenix and the synergistic tourism that exists between our markets, these cities seemed a natural fit. In addition, what better way to showcase Monterey wines than to have them featured in restaurants, retail shops, and hotels in our local market for the millions of travelers that visit the Monterey area each year?”

The Hotel Valley Ho will host the Scottsdale tour stop on March 2, which will include a complimentary press and trade tasting from 2 – 5 P.M.; a $45 per person consumer tasting from 6 – 9 P.M. A portion of the proceeds will benefit hospitality education scholarships through the Arizona Restaurant Association. “We have recently reopened after a $80M renovation, and are thrilled to be a part of the Monterey County Vintners Association’s 2006 tour,” stated Jesse Thompson, Director of Sales. “Hosting chic events such as this was the standard for the hotel in the days when Bing Crosby, Marilyn Monroe, Ted Williams, and Humphrey Bogart were guests. It’s a pleasure to be hosting an event of this nature.”

When the tour arrives in “Sin City” on March 9, the RM Seafood Restaurant, Mandalay Place will be the host of wine enthusiasts. As in Scottsdale, the Las Vegas tasting will include a complimentary press and trade tasting from 2 – 5 P.M., and a $45 per person consumer tasting from 6 – 9 P.M. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Nevada Restaurant Foundation. “Las Vegas is home to many of the best chefs and properties in the world,” commented RM Seafood owner Rick Moonen. “It is important for these key industry influencers to be able to directly experience the wines from such a dynamic and up-and-coming wine region.”

Finally, the heart of the tour will beat in Monterey on March 21 with a strolling wine and food reception for the press and trade at the Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa. The highly anticipated reception will take place from 2 – 5 P.M., and is complimentary for all media and trade. “As the local voice for the Monterey County hospitality industry, we recognize the importance of bringing colleagues within the industry together to learn about each other’s products and are thrilled to support the ‘Promote Local’ message,” commented Bonnie Adams, Executive Director of the Monterey County Hospitality Association.
