Chef Thomas Keller and California Grown Program Are Highlights Of This Weekend’s Western Foodservice & Hospitality Expo

NORWALK, Conn., Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ — Starting today, over 18,000 restaurant and foodservice professionals will find the newest products and services, enjoy new foods from several international countries and learn from industry leaders during the Western Foodservice & Hospitality Expo running August 20-22, 2005 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The Expo is the best-equipped, most comprehensive marketplace for all professionals serving the foodservice and hospitality industries on the West Coast. With over 650 companies exhibiting the latest high margin products, this event covers the entire spectrum of the foodservice industry. Highlights include:

* The R&I New Product Showcase and Tasting Arena will host the hottest
new food, products, trendy beverages and state-of-the-art technologies
and services. The arena will be open from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on Saturday,
August 20 and Sunday, August 21. All attendees are invited to judge
over 100 new products and vote for their favorites in the “People’s
Choice Awards.” Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony in
the arena on Monday, August 22 at 2:00 pm.

* With Los Angeles as a backdrop, a truly international marketplace, the
new International Tasting Arena promises to expose attendees to a
variety of new ethnic foods and beverages. The Arena will focus on
global and ethnic products to enhance menus from places like Germany,
Italy, Indonesia, Thailand, Mexico and Korea.

* The California Grown initiative will also be featured. The goal of the
California Grown program is to increase the consumption of locally
grown products — in the grocery store and at restaurants. Several
exhibitors will be featuring California Grown products and services.

* Widely regarded as one of America’s finest chefs, Thomas Keller will
present the keynote address on Sunday, August 21 at 11:00 am. Mr.
Keller is the chef and owner of The French Laundry, Bouchon, and
Bouchon Bakery, in Yountville, CA and Bouchon in Las Vegas, NV.

* Attendees can also experience the Brewery and the Wine Garden to sample
dozens of specialty beers, ales and wine. The ShowTenders(R)
Bartending Competition promises to dazzle attendees with theatrics,
high energy and jaw dropping thrills as local bartenders mix up their
concoctions.

* Other events include the National Trophy of Cuisine et Patisserie where
top chefs will battle to represent the U.S. at the 2006 International
Culinary & Pastry Trophy in Paris. In addition, the California
Restaurant Association will offer an exciting conference program and
The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) will offer continuing education
credits for four courses.
