NEW YORK, NY – The Kitano, New York’s first and only Japanese hotel, offers unique ways to celebrate the New Year. The festivities commence on December 31, 2006 for a New Year’s Eve celebration held in the Bar Lounge and will continue the following day with the traditional Japanese New Year’s Day meal of Osechi.

On New Year’s Eve join The Kitano for memorable jazz performances by the Don Braden Quartet with special guest vocalist Roseanna Vitro. The Kitano’s Bar Lounge offers a unique combination of tranquil Japanese influences and the sophistication of the best in American jazz, making it an ideal venue for a New Year’s get-together. The New Year’s Eve celebration will be held in the Bar Lounge of The Kitano New York and will commence at 8:00 p.m. and run until 1:00 a.m. The Don Braden Quartet with special guest vocalist Roseanna Vitro will entertain guests as they say goodbye to 2006 and ring in 2007.

This accomplished quartet consists of Don Braden on tenor sax, Art Hirahar on piano, Joris Teepe on bass and Gene Jackson on drums. The first performance will be held from 9:00 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. at a cost of $30 and the second will be held from 11:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at a cost of $40 and after a short break they will play again until 1:30 a.m. Tickets can be purchased together for the first and second performances for $60, at a cost savings of $10.

Attendees of the New Year’s Eve celebration will enjoy the courtesy and expertise of The Kitano’s events staff. The Bar Lounge provides for a cozy, yet sophisticated holiday celebration and is the perfect venue to bring together families and friends to ring in 2007 in classic and refined New York style.

The celebrations at The Kitano New York continue the following day with Osechi, a traditional Japanese New Year’s meal. Traditionally, since the Edo Period, often referred to as the beginning of the early modern period in Japan, the Japanese enjoy a seven-course meal for New Year’s Day dinner. This distinctive meal consists of a variety of dishes, each having their own significant meaning to wish you good health, fertility, a good harvest, happiness or a long life. Dinner commences with an appetizer and Japanese hors d’oeuvres such as Yellowtail Teriyaki and Marinated Herring Roe. Next on the menu is a simmered dish of Yam, Koya Tofu, Daikon, Carrot, Burdock, Konnyaku-potato and Snowpea, which is followed by the special of the day, a rice dish, soup and a special New Year’s Day dessert.

Brunch will be served from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. and will cost $75 for Osechi and $95 for Osechi & Sashimi. Dinner will be served from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. at a cost of $95. Only the set menu ‘Osechi & Sashimi’ will be available for dinner.
