Northwest to Add Nonstops Between Midwest and Las Vegas

‘Heartland’ Airline to Offer New Flights Between Las Vegas and Des Moines, Iowa, Grand Rapids, Mich., Madison, Wis. and Sioux Falls, S.D.

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Northwest Airlines today announced that it will add more nonstop flights between Las Vegas and four cities in America’s “Heartland.” Beginning Oct. 30, Northwest will offer nonstop service from Las Vegas to Des Moines, Grand Rapids, Madison and Sioux Falls.

“Northwest’s new flights will provide travelers in America’s Heartland with the convenience of nonstop service to one of the world’s top destinations,” said Tom Bach, vice president of network planning and revenue management. “The comprehensive level of service we offer in these important Midwestern markets further demonstrates Northwest’s commitment to maintaining and building upon its position as the leading choice of travelers in the Heartland.”

Currently, Northwest provides up to 14 nonstops per day between the Heartland and Las Vegas, including four flights from its Detroit hub, six flights from its Minneapolis/St. Paul hub and one flight from its Memphis hub. Northwest also offers daily service from Indianapolis (two flights) and Milwaukee to Las Vegas, and just last month announced that it would begin nonstop service from Flint, Mich. to Las Vegas on August 20.

Through its subsidiary, NWA WorldVacations, Northwest also offers affordable, customized vacation packages to Las Vegas that includes air fare, accommodations at more than 35 hotel properties, rental cars, and optional activities such as concert and event tickets, sightseeing tours, golfing and spa services.

“From world-class dining and nightlife to the year’s top concerts and events, there is something for everyone in Las Vegas,” said Jim Cron, vice president-passenger marketing and sales at Northwest and CEO of WorldVacations. “WorldVacations offers a wide selection of hotels and activities to enhance the Las Vegas experience.”

All of the new Northwest nonstops to Las Vegas will be operated with the airline’s modern, quiet and fuel-efficient Airbus A319 aircraft, featuring the widest passenger cabin in its class, 16 seats in first class and 108 seats in coach class.

Customers holding tickets for travel Oct. 30 and beyond on connecting service from Des Moines, Grand Rapids, Madison and Sioux Falls to Las Vegas can change their itineraries to one day earlier or one day later than what they are currently holding and switch to Northwest’s new nonstop service without paying an administrative change fee, provided they meet fare requirements and make all changes by Sept. 13.

Northwest currently offers up to 15 flights from Las Vegas McCarran International Airport to a total of six nonstop destinations. In addition to nonstop service to Detroit, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Memphis, Indianapolis and Milwaukee, the airline offers daily nonstop service to Los Angeles.
