SALEM, Ore., July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Amateur beer makers are encouraged to submit their homemade brews to the 2006 Oregon State Fair Beer Competition. The 27 entry categories include: ales, stouts, lagers and bocks, fruit, spice and smoke-flavored beer, as well as mead, cider and soft drinks.

The deadline for entry is Friday, July 28 at 5 p.m. Judging will take place on Saturday, August 12 at the Floral Building at the fairgrounds. Entry information and forms are available on the State Fair's website at http://www.oregonstatefair.org or by calling 503-947-3247 or toll free in Oregon, 1-800-833-0011.

An awards ceremony for entrants will be held on Opening Day, Friday, August 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the beer garden in the fairgrounds. All entrants are encouraged to attend. Winners will be announced at the reception and prizes presented. The grand prize for this year's competition is a day at the Pelican Pub Brewery, which includes lunch, dinner and accommodations.
