Ski resort plans to operate summer canopy tours to entice visitors

BALTIMORE, April 11 /PRNewswire/ -- This summer, active travelers and nature enthusiasts wanting to enjoy lush mountain landscapes can experience an innovative new option for exploring the usual quiet ski slopes. Spring Mountain Ski Area contracted Grip-It Adventures to design, manufacture and install a canopy tour at the Pennsylvania facility. The custom-designed system consists of elaborate zip lines, walkways, suspended bridges, a challenge course and climbing tower.

"We want to give visitors a reason to come play on the mountain during the summer," said resort owner Rick Buckman. "Spring Mountain remains the only ski resort in the country to operate a canopy tour during the summer months."

With expertly trained guides at their side and clipped to climbing harnesses for protection, thrill seekers take lifts 420 feet to the top of the mountain. After a short hike, nature enthusiasts learn plant facts and local history as they climb cargo nets, cross a variety of bridges and follow a series of zip lines across the open space high above the ski run. A 40-foot state-of-the-art rock-climbing tower including Summit Rock(TM) climbing surfaces completes the tour with participants rappelling to the ground.

"The beauty of the mountains combined with such an adrenaline rush is a unique opportunity," says Grip-It Adventures owner, Scott Hornick. "With careful thought and some creativity, ski resorts can make themselves summer destinations. We're delighted to help Spring Mountain execute this project and look forward to more great summer adventures."
