The Oxfordshire's Bear Essentials Include a Holiday
If you go down to The Oxfordshire next week, you could be in for a big surprise - for there maybe a bear with an eye-patch teeing it up.
Charitable golfers are being urged to pick up their clubs to help raise funds for the BBC’s annual Children in Need appeal which, of course, is headed by Pudsey the bear. And participants could win a holiday in sunny Spain, courtesy of the Andalucia Tourist Office.
The stunning club at Milton Common, near Thame, is hosting two Children in Need golf days with all green fees going to the children’s charity. The first is on Monday, November 13, and the second is on Wednesday, November 15.
Martin Harris, the general manager at The Oxfordshire, said: “We have put on two events this year, for the first time, as the event has always been very popular. So we thought we would add another day to raise even more money for the charity.”
The charity days take the form of a four-man Stableford event, with entry costing £290 per fourball for non-members – £250 for members - which includes coffee and bacon rolls on arrival, 18 holes of golf and a three-course dinner in the Oaks Restaurant with auction, raffle and entertainment.
Prizes will be awarded to the first three teams in the charity competition, as well as nearest-the-pin competitions, longest drive events and a Pudsey Bear hunt on the way round.
Each member of the winning team will receive a four-star, two-night, three-day break for two - with complimentary golf and buggy – courtesy of the Andalucia Tourist Office.
All green fees from the charity day will be donated by Leaderboard Golf – owner of The Oxfordshire - to Children in Need, the annual national fundraiser which helps underprivileged children.
Leaderboard Golf - which also owns Chart Hills, in Kent, Dale Hill Hotel & Golf Club, in Sussex, and Sandford Springs in Hampshire - raised £35,000 for the charity last year. And officials are hoping to top that total in 2006.
Harris added: “It promises to be a tremendous day and a lot of fun for everyone involved, and it’s all for a great cause.
“So we are urging people to enter a team, come down to The Oxfordshire, and help us raise lots of money for Children in Need.
“The Oxfordshire and Leaderboard are great supporters of Children in Need and the worthy work the charity undertakes, and we are delighted to open up the course for such a commendable event.”
