Surround Your Sweetheart With the Original Aphrodisiac This Valentine's Day

HARRISBURG, Pa., Feb. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Early Greeks saw it as a symbol of virility. In the Middle Ages, it was considered an aphrodisiac and was commonly used in love potions. But this symbol and aphrodisiac is not the rose, it's the exotic orchid and it's now on display in Pennsylvania, just in time for Valentine's Day.
Set a romantic scene by surrounding your sweetheart with these aphrodisiacs at Pittsburgh's Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens' "Orchid Fantasy," an annual display inspired this year by the public parks and botanical gardens of Thailand.
Of the 3,000 total orchids in the Phipps collection, more than 600 are on display now through March 12. The exhibit's lively, exotic colors in whites, blues, purples and yellows will be specially illuminated by candlelight for the perfect proposal or romantic stroll from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 14. Kicking off its Centennial year with an affectionate spirit, Longwood Gardens in suburban Philadelphia proves that "Romance Blooms" at the other end of the state with more than three acres of indoor gardens, 60,000 spring blooms and up to 500 love-inducing orchids on display. In the days leading up to Valentine's Day (Feb. 11-13), Longwood Gardens will create a romantic atmosphere with a strolling violinist and jazz singer, chocolate desserts and cooking demonstrations, and a visiting floral arrangement expert who will share her award-winning designs.
