Pennsylvania Governor Rendell Provides Additional Funding for PHMC's Historic Sites and Museums in Budget
Thanks to Governor's Budget, State Museum Will Not Charge an Admission Fee
HARRISBURG, Pa., Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission will continue operating its 25 historic sites and museums and provide top-notch tourist attractions and educational opportunities as a result of Governor Edward G. Rendell's proposed 2006-07 budget.
Additionally, the State Museum of Pennsylvania will not charge an admission fee this year.
"Governor Rendell recognizes the great value our historic sites and museums make in the landscape of tourism and travel in Pennsylvania, and we are grateful that he is willing to support the maintenance of our operation," PHMC Executive Director Barbara Franco said today at the start of budget hearings before the House Appropriations Committee in Harrisburg.
"The Governor's recommended funding levels will also ensure the ongoing quality of the many educational programs that serve adults and schoolchildren in the state," Franco said.
The Pennsylvania Trail of History(R) includes historic sites throughout the commonwealth and serves a million visitors a year. The State Archives, which hosts the annual Black History in Pennsylvania Conference, is currently conserving Civil War muster rolls that tell the stories of Pennsylvanians who fought at Gettysburg and other battles. The State Museum co-sponsors the juried Art of the State exhibit each year and provides permanent and changing exhibits.
The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission is the official history agency of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
