WHITE PLAINS, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 10/07/2005 -- If fewer crowds and lower airfares aren't enough enticement, North American travelers going to Italy this fall and winter can save up to 20% on rail travel throughout the country when railpasses are purchased here from Rail Europe. These lower prices, and a new shorter 3-day Trenitalia Pass, are part of a Trenitalia Winter Promotion that must be booked by February 28, 2006 for travel from November 1st, 2005 through March 31, 2006.

The Winter Promotion prices on all versions and durations of the Trenitalia Pass are up to 17% lower than 2005 prices and 20% lower than prices that will go into effect January 1, 2006. The Winter Promo prices for the same 4-day passes are $173 US/$228 CAD, $147 US/$194 CAD and $145 US/$191 CAD, respectively.

For those traveling on short breaks to Italy in the low season (November 1-March 31), a special 3-day Trenitalia Pass is available for purchase now through February 28, 2006, starting at $130 US/$171 CAD (2nd class) or $162 US/$213 CAD (1st) per person for two people traveling together, $153 US/$201 CAD (2nd class) or $191 US/$ 251CAD (1st) for a solo traveler and $128 US/$168 CAD for youth (2nd class only).

Additional days can be purchased for any of these passes up to a maximum of 10 total rail travel days, which may be used consecutively or non-consecutively within a 2-month timeframe. The cost of additional days varies with the type of pass purchased.

All Trenitalia Passes give passholders free ferry service to Sicily, discounts at various hotels and ferries, and special passholder fares on many trains connecting Italy with France, Switzerland and Spain. Seat reservations (not included in the pass) are mandatory on special trains such as ES Italia and Cisalpino; reservations may be made when booking the pass with Rail Europe.
