WHITE PLAINS, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 08/05/2005 -- Buy a BritRail Pass product between August 15 and September 30 -- which can be used up to six months later -- and you get an extra free rail travel day. Travelers headed for the UK can save money on fluctuating exchange rates and get more out of their UK stay by buying other tour products here in dollars from Rail Europe before leaving home. The company reports an 84% increase in sales year-to-date of some UK tour products over last year's figures. Rail Europe is the largest North American distributor of European/UK rail and related products.

BritRail Free Day Offer

The free day offer is available on all durations (from 4 days to 1 month) of the BritRail Consecutive Pass, BritRail Flexipass, BritRail England Consecutive Pass or BritRail England Flexipass in either first or standard class. To qualify, the pass must be purchased between August 15 and September 30, 2005. Starting prices of these passes (in standard class) are $209 US/$269 CAD (BritRail Consecutive Pass), $265 US/$339 CAD (BritRail Flexipass), $169 US/$209 CAD (BritRail England Consecutive Pass), and $209 US/$269 CAD (BritRail England Flexipass).

UK Add-On Tour Products Increase in Popularity

North Americans can get the most out of their trip to the UK with tours/excursions and other add-on products, such as those listed below. When travelers purchase these from Rail Europe here before leaving, they avoid the sticker shock of paying more in pounds or Euros over there, due to a falling dollar.

"We've seen sales of some of these products, such as the Simply Paris Day Trip, grow by as much as 84% this year over last," says Fabrice Morel, President and CEO of the Rail Europe Group. "This indicates not only rising interest in travel to the UK, but also that travelers realize it pays to buy the same product here in dollars."

UK tour products offered by Rail Europe include:

Great British Heritage Pass -- admission to over 600 public and privately owned historic properties throughout the UK, starting at $50 US/$70 CAD.

Airport express train tickets -- Heathrow Express, Gatwick Express, Stansted Express trains provide fast, convenient transfers between each of these airports and central London.

London Pass -- head-of-line admission to over 60 museums and other attractions in London, starting at $85 US/$112 CAD. Day Trips to Paris or Edinburgh -- both semi-escorted and unescorted daytrips via the Eurostar train to Paris, starting at $228 US/$299 CAD. Daytrip by rail to Edinburgh is unescorted and includes bus tour, visit to Edinburgh Castle for $188 US/$245 CAD.

Overnight Trips to Paris or Edinburgh -- starts at $383 US/$502 CAD to Paris, $358 US/$469 CAD to Edinburgh -- when a daytrip simply isn't enough. Include tours of destination cities. Additional nights available.

London and vicinity tours -- wide variety of tours in and about London, from evening tours such as Medieval Banquet or Jack the Ripper walking tour, or half- or full-day tours of the city or to Leeds Castle, Salisbury, Bath, Stonehenge, Alnwick Castle (Harry Potter filming site), Windsor Castle, Oxford, Stratford-on-Avon, Canterbury and Dover.

Original London Sightseeing Tour -- hop on and off a double-decker bus with recorded commentary, starting at $28 US/$37 CAD.

Eurostar tickets to Paris or Brussels -- travel through the Channel Tunnel on the 186-mph Eurostar train, now 20 minutes faster than before because of a new section of high-speed track in Kent. BritRail Pass holders receive the lowest fare (restrictions apply).
