The Ripken Experience -- Myrtle Beach Set for Planned June Opening
One-Of-A-Kind Facility Will Attract Youth Teams From Across the Nation to Play Baseball in Myrtle Beach
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C., March 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The Ripken Experience -- Myrtle Beach, a one-of-a-kind youth baseball complex with major league quality facilities, remains on schedule for its planned June opening, according to Tim Deyesu, assistant general manager for The Ripken Experience.
A joint project between Burroughs & Chapin Company and Ripken Baseball, Inc., The Ripken Experience will be one of the nation's top youth sports facilities upon its opening. The Ripken Experience will feature six youth and three regulation size baseball fields, each modeled after one of the game's historic parks, including the Polo Grounds, Comiskey Park and Forbes Field.
The Ripken Experience fields will be made from FieldTurf(R), the game's most advanced artificial surface. FieldTurf(R), which is used in several Major League parks, combines the comfort and safety of natural grass with the durability of turf. In addition to the fields, the complex will include a three-acre Training Island, a practice facility that will allow coaches to drill their team in all facets of the game.
"Excitement is building about The Ripken Experience -- Myrtle Beach," Deyesu said. "The Ripken name is synonymous with baseball excellence and this facility will do nothing but enhance that reputation. We can't wait for opening day to begin bringing kids from across the country to Myrtle Beach for The Ripken Experience."
The Ripken Experience will host week-long tournaments during the summer and weekend tournaments in the fall. Teams from 21 states have already committed to participate in the youth tournaments, which will cater to youth between the ages of 10 and 18.
The Ripken Experience players will have just as much fun off the field as they do on it. Participating teams will stay in Myrtlewood Villas, located in the heart of Myrtle Beach and less than two miles from the Atlantic Ocean. Players will receive all-access passes to many of the Grand Strand's top attractions, including NASCAR SpeedPark, Pavilion Amusement Park, Myrtle Waves Water Park and Dragon's Lair Miniature Golf.
