Sample Splendid Wine in Scenic Oregon
Love wine? So do the people of Oregon! Just a 20-minute drive west of Portland will take you to the site of more than a dozen wineries. If you make the trip you can even visit one of Oregon’s first Pinot noir producing wineries.
If you’re up to spending the day in town, you can always head over to the Forest Grove area. Here you’ll be intoxicated by their small-town ways and absolutely delicious food! After filling your belly you’ll want to stop by the wine tasting rooms nearby at the David Hill Vineyard & Winery and the Montinore Estate, which was established in 1982. Both of these beautiful places located on Oregon’s coast have outstanding views and a delectable selection of Pinot noir, Pinot gris, Riesling and many others you’re sure to love.
Next, head to one of the most enchanting wineries in Oregon: the Helvetia Vineyards, located in the northern rim of the Tualatin Valley. Helvetia’s antique tasting room is a one hundred year old house containing the original Swiss and German immigrants’ winemaking equipment. Prior to prohibition, the community was also known as Grape Hill because of the area's cottage wine industry.
If you happen to be the athletic type, you might want to make your next destination the Tillamook Forest Center. The place is just teeming with scenic hiking and mountain biking trails, and it’s only a half-hour drive west of highway six! The Center has a climbable 40-foot tall replica of a forest fire lookout tower and a dramatic 250-foot-long pedestrian suspension bridge which leads from the building across the Wilson River to the Wilson River Trail and nearby Jones Creek Campground. Another fantastic place to get your hike on is at the Hagg Lake, which is located at the base of Oregon’s coast. It is here that you’ll find even more hiking and biking trails. It’s also a great place to relax and fish. In addition you can rent a kayak or row boat and explore the majestic Hagg Lake.
Lastly check out an original family-owned and operated winery dubbed Ponzi Vineyards, which was founded in 1970 in Oregon's lush Willamette Valley. This enchanting place is one of Oregon’s first Pinot noir producing wineries. Ponzi Vineyards sets the standard for Oregon and remains at the forefront of the nation's top wine producers. You’ll want to visit their fabulous tasting room and sample their wine. However you don’t want to leave Oregon on an empty stomach! Head over to Hayden’s Lakefront Grill in Tualatin for a delicious meal prepared with fruits, nuts, cheeses, wild game and fish all locally harvested in Oregon.
