International Entertainers, German Natives, Open Annual Festival at Hofbrauhaus Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS, Sept. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Bowing to an almost 200-year-old tradition, Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn, the international entertainment duo Siegfried & Roy, tapped the first keg of Oktoberfest beer here tonight and officially opened the annual German celebration of Oktoberfest at the Hofbrauhaus Las Vegas on the same day that Oktoberfest started in Munich, Germany.
No strangers to adoring audiences, Siegfried & Roy, both natives of Germany, served as the honorary Burgermeisters (or mayor) for the evening and tapped the first Oktoberfest keg following a traditional parade through the Hofbrauhaus Las Vegas beer hall. The Oktoberfest beer, imported from the original Hofbrau brewery in Munich, Germany, is a seasonal beer brewed especially for the traditional festival.
"Oktoberfest is always a special time of year and it is especially meaningful that Siegfried & Roy tapped the first keg tonight to start our six-week celebration," said Stefan Gastager, president of the Hofbrauhaus Las Vegas. Oktoberfest will be celebrated at Hofbrauhaus Las Vegas until October 31.
This year the festival will offer authentic Bavarian food, entertainment and of course, beer, but also will include arts and crafts such as stein painting, Bavarian sculpture, Spatzle (an alternative to noodles) making and the art of painting traditional Hummel figurines.
Celebrated for almost 200 years, Oktoberfest grew out of the October 1810 wedding reception of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese Sachsen-Hildburghausen. The wedding became a public festival when the royal family invited the people of Munich to free beer and a horse race. Over 40,000 attended and the festival was so successful that Ludwig decided the horse race would be held the following year in conjunction with the state agricultural show. Oktoberfest was born.
The Hofbrauhaus Las Vegas is an authentic replica of the world-famous Hofbrauhaus in Munich and is licensed to operate by Staatliches Hofbrauhaus in Munich. The restaurant is a reproduction of the world's most famous beer hall from its hand-painted ceilings to its food and drink. Bavarian charm and live music abound and with the beer hall and air-conditioned Biergarten (beer garden), it's Oktoberfest every day.
