Singapore Airlines Takes the Baggage Out of Your Trip
The First International Carrier to Provide New BaggageDirect(R) Service from LAX
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Singapore Airlines (SIA) is making travel a little lighter for its passengers with the introduction of its new door-to-destination baggage service beginning August 15, 2005 on outbound travel from LAX. BaggageDirect(R), an airport check-in and delivery service, will pick up passengers' luggage from their homes or offices six to 24 hours before their flights, eliminating the baggage check-in process. BaggageDirect(R) will also provide travelers with a boarding receipt upon pick-up, allowing them to check-in at SIA's First Class counters.
For the first three months, or first thousand passengers, the service will be free of charge. From November 15, solo passengers in any class of service will be charged $30 and allotted two pieces of luggage weighing no more than 70 lbs. Any accompanying passengers flying on the same itinerary will be charged $15 for the baggage allocation.
"Who wants to lug heavy baggage to the airport? This new service dramatically reduces the hassle factor of air travel by allowing passengers to bypass baggage check-in at LAX. BaggageDirect(R) offers a stroke of much needed comfort and convenience when traveling," said Ken Bright, vice president of marketing for Singapore Airlines - North America.
Singapore Airlines' reservations staff will direct customers to BaggageDirect(R) via phone at 1-800-959-4424 or visiting http://www.baggagedirect.com/ to book the service.
Headquartered in Newport Beach, CA, BaggageDirect(R) is the country's first and only patented mobile remote check-in service certified by TSA. Its drivers undergo 10-year background checks, extensive training for luggage, check-in and security procedures, and are approved by TSA. BaggageDirect(R) has limited domestic service from Los Angeles, Oahu and Maui.
