Worldwide Customers Can Expect Normal Flight Schedules, Frequent Flyer Mileage Accrual, and Other Benefits

NEW YORK, Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to Delta Air Lines' and Northwest Airlines' filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, the global airline alliance SkyTeam, of which both are members, issued the following statement:

Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines have been integral members of SkyTeam since joining the alliance in 2000 and 2004 respectively, and play key roles in the alliance's global offerings. The U.S. is one of the world's most important business travel markets and an attractive tourist destination for global travelers, and the SkyTeam alliance will continue to operate "business as usual."

While Delta and Northwest continue their restructuring efforts they will remain full members of SkyTeam, maintain all alliance agreements currently in place and continue to offer SkyTeam passengers the high level of service they expect from our quality, customer-focused member airlines.

SkyTeam customers will continue to benefit from the SkyTeam alliance's promise of "Caring More About You", including the ability to collect and redeem Delta and Northwest frequent flyer miles and to access airport lounges around the world. All Delta and Northwest codeshares with other SkyTeam carriers will continue to operate.

Chapter 11 is part of the United States Bankruptcy Code that governs the court-supervised reorganization of companies under the bankruptcy laws of the United States.
