“Southwest Airlines has been planning to serve Southwest Florida for quite some time, and we are so happy to be inaugurating service today in this well run, brand-new facility,” said Gary Kelly, Southwest Airlines Chief Executive Officer. “Ft. Myers is a fantastic fit within our route system and will be a great new frontier for Southwest.”

Southwest, whose ticker symbol is LUV, hosted its own LUVFest to introduce its “fun-luving” Culture to Southwest Florida travelers. Doug St. Cerny, Chairman of the Board of Port Commissioners, joined Kelly in the welcoming festivities at the airport with Southwest Employees and Customers. Artwork from Ft. Myers High School decorated the gate area, and Kelly dedicated a stunning Simon Bull painting, “To Hold You In My Heart,” which depicts a large deep blue heart amidst deep red and yellow tones to the airport. Attendees had photos taken with Southwest Airlines’ mascot, “Spirit.” Southwest showered guests with chocolate kisses from the “Southwest Airlines Kissing Booth,” and Southwest Employees added to the festivities with their bright red “LUV” T-shirts.

Southwest began its Ft. Myers service today from two gates at the recently completed Southwest Florida International Airport Midfield Terminal. The airline offers nine daily nonstop flights to the following cities: Baltimore/Washington (two daily), Chicago Midway (two daily), Long Island/Islip (one daily), Orlando (three daily), and Philadelphia (one daily). The airline also offers direct or connecting service to 29 other destinations, such as Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Phoenix. Connection destinations also include ATA codeshare cities such as Minneapolis/St. Paul and Denver.

Southwest Airlines not only brings its unique personality to Southwest Florida, it also offers great service to its new nonstop destinations at extremely competitive fares. Southwest Airlines offers Southwest Florida Customers its biggest discounts with its advance purchase tickets. For example, Customers can head to Orlando for as little as $29* one-way with Southwest Airlines’ 21-day advance purchase fares.
