Greyhound to Award Students in ‘Road Scholar’ Program; Students Can Enter to Win the ‘Best Year You Never Paid For’

TORONTO, Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ — Greyhound Canada today announced the launch of Greyhound Road Scholar, a new scholarship program that gives students a chance to win university or college tuition and books for one year plus $1,000 worth of prizes.

“Greyhound Canada knows students and we understand it can be a struggle to pay for higher education,” said Paul Dillon, director of marketing, Greyhound Canada. “Greyhound Road Scholar is one way we can give back to some of our best customers by helping them with their college expenses.”

Three winners from across the country will be awarded $4,000 for tuition and $1,000 for books for one year, plus $1,000 in additional prizes to choose from, including a computer, iPod, mini-fridge, portable DVD player, mountain bike and much more. In addition, five Discovery Passes per participating province will be distributed as secondary prizes. The Discovery Pass is a flexible 30-day pass where travelers can hop on and hop off Greyhound buses to anywhere the company travels in North America.

“We feel this program will truly resonate with students because the prizes, from free tuition to digital cameras, are items of real value to Canadian students,” said Dillon.

The contest runs from Feb. 15 to Aug. 1, 2006, and is open to university, college and high school students in their senior year from British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec. To enter, students must attend or plan to attend a college or university recognized by The Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada or The Association of Canadian Community Colleges.

Students will receive one entry for registering at www.GreyhoundRoadScholar.ca . Applicants can obtain additional entries with every Greyhound ticket purchase, Greyhound Courier Express shipment or by referring up to five of their friends from now until Aug. 1. The winner will be notified via phone or email on Aug. 15, 2006. In addition, winners’ names will be posted on the Greyhound Road Scholar Web site.

Since 1997, Greyhound has awarded scholarships to Canadian students. Greyhound Road Scholar replaces the company’s previous scholarship program, Travel is Education Too!, which awarded scholarships and prizes to graduating high school students. The new program has expanded its prizing to more than $18,000 and reaches a wider student audience by extending the scholarship to university and college students.
