Summer ArtWalk 2005 on August 20 to Showcase 150 Ventura County Artists and 20 Performances in Ventura’s Downtown Cultural District

VENTURA, CA — (MARKET WIRE) — 08/11/2005 — For 10 years the City of Ventura, CA has presented seasonal ArtWalks in the Spring, Summer and Fall. The Summer ArtWalk, set to be the largest event held to date and the best way to check out Ventura’s thriving art scene, will be held on Saturday, August 20 from 3-9 pm. Art and music lovers will not want to miss this unique self-guided walking tour that brings together area artists, studios, galleries, downtown merchants and visitors of all ages in a celebration of visual and performing art.

The ArtWalk spans the city’s entire Cultural District — more than ten city blocks of Historic Downtown Ventura plus Ventura Avenue — and celebrates Ventura County’s vibrant professional community of artists. Over 150 Ventura County artists will display artwork at 86 downtown locations, including art galleries, working studios and various fun and funky “gallery-for-a-day” venues. The day of free events also includes 20 live outdoor musical performances and kids’ activities.

The public can meet Featured ArtWalk Artist Linda F. Peterson at Fox Fine Jewelry for a free poster signing at 210 E. Main Street from 3-5 pm.

Just a few of the unique exhibits and entertainment include:

– See working stone carving studios and painting demonstrations
– Have dinner with original artwork hanging above you and meet the
artist who created it
– Book stores, bakeries, bars and boutiques turn into galleries
– Families can dance and drum in an interactive percussion activity with
One World Drummers
– Groove to traditional Cuban charanga, or rock, jazz, motown and r&b on
the Main Street and California and Santa Clara Street Stages
– Dance to eclectic beats and art exhibits at the California Street
plaza by the beach
Live music and performances at various locations in the Downtown Cultural District will have you dancing down the sidewalk while you are looking at art.
