PHILADELPHIA, March 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Once again, the world is invited to celebrate America's Birthday in America's Birthplace. Sunoco Welcome America's new Executive Director Clifton Davis today announced that Philadelphia's annual Fourth of July Celebration will take place from Wednesday, June 28 to Tuesday, July 4, 2006.

With this year's festival tagline, 'Philadelphia Wants You to Come Party With Us,' Davis promised a celebration the country won't soon forget. "Being in Philadelphia on July Fourth is like being in New York on New Year's Eve," said Davis. "After 14 years, we've created an event that attracts nearly a million people; this year, Sunoco and the City of Philadelphia are poised to add more flavor, more fun and more entertainment that shows Philadelphia IS the place for families to party on Independence Day."

The 14th annual Sunoco Welcome America! Festival, one of largest outdoor festivals in the world, will offer a series of free events at venues across the City, home of the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence was written.

The festival will be a seven-day family-oriented celebration of music, dance, food and patriotism culminating in a July 4th parade, concert and fireworks display. Events will span the gamut of American musical performance: Jazz, Gospel, R & B, Opera, Latin. On July 4th, an estimated one million people will gather on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway to watch the closing concert and fireworks. The July 4th weekend (July 1st-4th) features "A Taste of Philadelphia," "Arts on the Avenue," "Penn's Landing Concert," "Opera on the Square" and "Fiesta on the Parkway" (to celebrate the vibrant culture of Latino Americans), plus a big finale on Independence Day with top name entertainment, patriotic parade and one of the best fireworks displays in the country.
