AMESWALKER.COM SURVEY FINDS MAJORITY OF RESPONDENTS WEAR COMPRESSION PRODUCTS AS A PREVENTIVE MEASURE
Yet, While Traveling When Health is at Great Risk, Only 19% Are Cautious
Asheboro, North Carolina (April 18, 2007) - AmesWalker.com, specialists in graduated support hosiery, today announced the results of a consumer survey and found that 68% of respondents wear compression products as a preventive measure to help minimize unsightly varicose and spider veins and minimize the risk of developing DVT (deep vein thrombosis) a potentially fatal blood clot. However, the results reveal an important point, only 19% of respondents wear compression hosiery while traveling, when their health can be at great risk.
“DVT can form from sitting for extended periods of time, whether you are flying or driving,” said Paul Amatangelo, compression hosiery specialist. “While vacations are a time to kick-back and leave worries behind, if the travel time is extensive, it’s important to consider the health of your legs.”
In addition to preventive measures, the survey found that 54% of respondents wear compression hosiery to treat foot and/or leg pain and fatigue, 19% wear them post-surgery as directed by their doctor and 9% wear them because they suffer from diabetes.
Not Your Grandmother’s Stockings
“It is generally assumed that leg health issues are a concern for older adults or for those in poor health, but recent science is indicating that those in better than average health are at great risk,” added Paul. “More and more, it’s the younger, healthy consumers that are taking a proactive approach and using products that will prevent illness or injury.”
The survey found that:
· 17% of customers started wearing compression products at an early age, between 21 and 30 years old
· 21% between the ages of 31 and 40
· 28% were between the ages of 41 to 50
With younger consumers heeding the benefits of compression hosiery, nearly 70% of respondents hope the compression hosiery industry continues to evolve and develops more fashionable products, including 68% who responded that they are specifically interested in purchasing compression sportswear.
The survey also showed that respondents have an overwhelmingly positive response to wearing compression hosiery:
· 100% plan to continue wearing compression products
· 97% said they would recommend compression hosiery products to their friends
· 95% of respondents said that compression hosiery has improved the health of their legs.
Which products are consumers most likely wearing? According to the survey, the majority of products purchased were Support Hosiery (58%), Medical Weight Hosiery (34%) and Socks (26%).
The online survey was distributed to registered AmesWalker.com customers. 394 people completed the survey.
