Recognition By Conde Nast Traveler Highlights Kick-Off of the Inn's 25th Anniversary

WAYNESVILLE, N.C., Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, The Swag Country Inn (http://www.theswag.com/) received national recognition in the 12th annual "Conde Nast Gold List" as one of the world's best places to stay by readers of Conde Nast Traveler. Recently, the magazine ranked the inn as one of the Top 75 Hotels in the United States with an overall 90.1 rating for property design, food quality, ambiance and service.

According to Deener Matthews, co-owner and innkeeper at The Swag, "We are thrilled to receive such prominent recognition on the occasion of our 25th anniversary. All the credit for our success goes to the hard work and great service by our dedicated staff of professionals." The 15-room, romantic mountain hideaway opens April 23 for its season-long silver anniversary celebration ending November 12, 2006.

Secluded atop a spectacular 5,000-foot-high mountain ridge in Western North Carolina, The Swag commands 50-mile vistas (including legendary Cold Mountain), private access to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and romantic guest rooms boasting hand-crafted interiors, stone fireplaces, Jacuzzis and steam showers for two. The inn is listed in Zagat's 2006 Top U.S. Hotels, Resorts and Spas and featured in the New York Post as one of 10 Best Inns worldwide for "sophisticated amenities and uncompromised privacy."

The Swag is comprised of six log buildings, five of which are hand-hewn log structures and one dating to 1795. The logs are from Appalachian buildings that include a century-old church. Cold Mountain (6,030 feet) is 18 miles south of The Swag and is clearly visible from the inn's front porch.

Opened for guests in 1982, The Swag is currently celebrating 25 years of award-winning excellence. Other citations and accolades include the Gourmet Society of North Carolina 2006 Golden Fork Award, recognition as a "Great Country Escape" by Andrew Harper's 2005 Hideaway Report and selection in 2004 by Knight-Ridder Tribune Information Service as one of ten distinctive inns worldwide "that are exceptional, offbeat and definitely worth a closer look."
