Taboo Resort, Golf and Spa Reopens May 15

Resort’s Renovation Includes State-of-the-Art ‘Culinary Theatre’ and Chic Accommodations Designed by munge//leung

GRAVENHURST, Ontario, May 3 /PRNewswire/ — After much anticipation and months of tireless work behind closed doors, the luxury Taboo Resort, Golf and Spa, will reopen on May 15, 2005 to unveil a new look described as “chic and striking” by munge//leung, the award-winning team who created the design. The renovation, which took place over the winter months, was the next major step in what the resort has dubbed its “evolution,” which began several years ago with the opening of Taboo Golf Course, the home course of 2003 Masters Champion, Mike Weir.

“Our new look is completely unique to this area and is more in line with something you would see in Miami, New York or Los Angeles,” says Egon von Foidl, managing director. “We have created an atmosphere and level of service that conveys the utmost in luxury and sophistication and an experience that is refreshingly unexpected and original for a resort destination.”

Highlights of the multi-million-dollar design include:

The new urban-style lobby features contemporary furnishings, modern art and sculptures. A unique and personalized check-in service, which the resort says, “will feel like you are walking into a friend’s living room,” is accomplished courtesy of well-dressed staff with headsets and laptops, designed to cut down on wait times and standing in line.

“The traditional hotel front desk check-in method is tired,” says von Foidl. “We wanted it to be a first-rate experience and for our guests to feel special as soon as they walk in the door.”

Twenty-four of the resort’s lakeview accommodations have also been completely renovated and feature custom-designed walnut furniture, Egyptian cotton linens, adjustable pinhole lighting and diffuser, 42-inch plasma or 32- inch LCD television, Taboo signature toiletries and modern chrome and marble bathroom touches. The resort also finished renovations on their 22 Platinum Suites, of which 9 feature hardwood flooring and all provide a balcony, wood burning fireplace, Jacuzzi tub and other fashionable furnishings. Of Taboo’s 107 guest rooms, 23 will be wired for high-speed Internet access and 84 will offer Wi-Fi wireless. All of the resort’s meeting rooms will also feature Wi-Fi wireless.

A unique dining space, operating under the name ELEMENTS OF TABOO: Restaurant-Culinary Theatre-Lounge, offers three culinary experiences in one area:

— Intimate banquettes and floor-to-ceiling windows provide stunning
lakeside views as the backdrop for the Restaurant’s menu, which
features the seasonal cuisine of chef Tawfik Shehata and paired with
wine selections from sommelier, Michael Sullivan. A private, 25- seat
glass enclosed executive dining room includes state-of-the -art
audio/video system and recessed 50-inch plasma screen television.

— A one-of-a kind 30-seat Culinary Theatre is at the core of the entire
dining area. It offers patrons the ability to watch and interact with
chefs Michael Pataran and Jay Scaife, as they prepare their famous 3,5
and 7 course Asian and French influenced tasting menus, while the
action is broadcast live on plasma screen televisions. Wine pairings
are also available in addition to a special dessert menu.

— An ultra-cozy and hip piano Lounge just off the lobby, features a
striking fireplace (20′ x 4′) and offers cocktails and a “small plates”
menu courtesy of Shehata.

“There will be something at ELEMENTS to please every palate,” says von Foidl. “This first-of-its-kind dining venue really underlines how important we feel the food experience is to our resort guests.”
