Make an ‘Arts Scene’ in Tahiti

New artists space promises interactive experience for guests; “Artistic Travel Package” celebrates launch of L’Atelier –

December 2006 (Tahiti) – There’s a vibrant international arts scene taking root in the South Pacific at Le Méridien Tahiti. It’s L’Atelier, a new onsite artists space set to feature contemporary artists from across the islands and around the world. Recently launched by the luxurious seaside resort, L’Atelier reflects Le Méridien’s passion for supporting local culture while offering guests a unique and rewarding interactive experience with the creative personalities behind striking works of art.

Unlike mere gallery spaces, L’Atelier – that’s Français for “studio” – draws creative guests with exhibitions as well as with the artists themselves. Located near the lagoon at Le Méridien Tahiti, the new space is an inviting setting for lectures, art workshops and, of course, cocktail-fueled openings. Along with fresh opportunities to peruse contemporary works of art – including paintings, pottery, photography, sculpture and jewelry – guests can look forward to learning the techniques, experiencing the inspirations, and even creating their own original artworks to take home across the seas.

Currently on display at L’Atelier are the works of Gerald Gaillard, a contemporary painter and educator of a quarter-century’s experience whose talents have been widely recognized throughout Africa and South America. Along with teaching in France and Tahiti, the artist has recently exhibited in Papette and Nouméa.

Come celebrate L’Atelier and learn from the renowned Gerald Gaillard with the Artistic Travel Package at Le Méridien Tahiti, including:

-Five nights in a garden-view guest room for the price of four

-Buffet breakfast for two daily

-A daily two-hour painting course taught by Gerald Gaillard for two, for four days

-Transportation into Tahitian capital city of Papeete for visits to local art galleries

The Artistic Travel Package starts at 31,080 XPF (approx. $334 U.S.) per room, per night, based on double occupancy. Offer valid January 1-February 28, 2007.

Le Méridien Tahiti is currently working with a local artists association from throughout the South Pacific to secure commitments for future exhibitions as well as to schedule appearances. The resort is also pursuing international artists with “in residence” propositions to share their talent with guests and the local community. L’Atelier is well suited for an expansive schedule, with space for exhibiting the works of three artists simultaneously, as well as for private events and workshops with up to 60 attendees.
