SAN JOSE, California, Aug. 24 — Advance media tours are now being scheduled to provide background and photo/B-roll opportunities on the 3 miles of trails and surrounding acres of Guadalupe River Park & Gardens prior to the Saturday, Sept. 10 event celebrating the completion of this complex project that has been in development for decades.
To schedule a tour, please call Diane McNutt at 408-354-1242 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Major focus areas include:
– Innovative engineering that diverts potential flood waters from the Guadalupe River into an underground bypass system. The Guadalupe River has always flooded periodically during intense rainy seasons and in 1995 caused $10 million in damage in downtown San Jose. A major flood in downtown now could affect as many as 28,000 people and 4,300 structures with damage estimates as high as $576.
– Environmental protection of sensitive wildlife with special attention to preserving habitats for salmon, steelhead and endangered birds.
– Recreation features and beautiful open space in the heart of the 10th largest city in America — including a one-of-a-kind carousel, tennis courts, sand volleyball court, whimsical public art and fountains, and large expanses of lawn and plazas for civic gatherings.
– Paved trails extending from Highway 280 in the south to Highway 880 in the north. [Portions of the trail are still under construction at this time.] Eventually the trail will extend north to Alviso and will connect in the south with the Los Gatos Creek Trail and a trail to Almaden Valley.
The September 10 event is designed to introduce the public to the park and encourage people to explore all aspects of it. There will be free entertainment and activities in many areas of the park including six stages of live entertainment, 100+ fun family activities, and free commemorative giveaways including a backpack, 2006 wall calendar, children’s activity book and more.
