FAIRPORT HARBOR, Ohio, April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The Travel Channel will be featuring a segment on Ohio's largest perch fish fry and festival, The Lake County PerchFest(TM) Tuesday, April 12, 2005, 8:00 pm.

The Travel Channel show, "Taste of America," with host Mark DeCarlo, and a crew from Los Angeles, New York and Cleveland, spent the entire day, Saturday, September 11, 2004, videotaping the PerchFest.

The Lake County PerchFest(TM), September 9-11, 2005, at Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park, east of Cleveland, is an annual special event designed to attract visitors to the east side of Lake Erie in Lake County. Admission is free with a varied schedule of regional touring bands and youth activities at a 25-acre Lake Erie beach park operated by Lake Metroparks.

Lake Erie yellow perch fish fries are the main attraction, which also drew the attention of Travel Channel producers. Seven thousand meals are sold, with crowds estimated around 25,000. Food vendors offering alternatives to non- fish eaters and craft vendors compliment the festival site. The Fairport Marine Museum and Lighthouse and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Lake Erie research vessel, The Grandon offer tours.

Host Mark DeCarlo spins a whimsical, lighthearted, visit through the PerchFest, challenging perch fishing contestants with his tiny perch catch, trying to catch a perch from a boat, and learning how to fry perch, which is considered a culinary delicacy in the Great Lakes region and beyond.

Lake County Visitors Bureau Executive Director Robert Ulas escorted the Travel Channel ensemble. "I have been on film and TV sets before, but I lost track of how hard television producers work. Sometimes up to ten takes are shot per scene to get the most entertaining, properly framed segment," said Ulas. "Mark DeCarlo is a very talented, funny host. He is a good sport too and has a very engaging personality.

"National prime time television coverage for the Lake County PerchFest(TM) is expected to thrust Ohio's smallest, but very prosperous coastal county, into a new level of tourism credibility. Lake County is very grateful for the coverage. We showed the production team a good time. We feel they were impressed. So will new visitors to Lake County, Ohio," said Ulas.
