First Star Alliance member to offer paperless ticketing alliance-wide

CHICAGO, June 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Circling the world without the fuss of a paper ticket is now a reality for United Airlines’ customers, as United has become the first Star Alliance(R) member to offer electronic ticketing across the entire network of Star Alliance partners.*

With interline E-ticketing, United customers may purchase a single electronic ticket to be used across all legs of their journey on United’s Star Alliance partners, and may continue to earn United Mileage Plus(R) miles as they span the globe.

Offering nearly 800 destinations in 139 countries worldwide, the Star Alliance serves customers worldwide with a network that continues to grow. Newest member TAP Portugal joined the Alliance in March 2005, increasing membership to sixteen carriers.

The most preferred ticket type by customers, electronic ticketing is also the most cost-effective ticketing method for United. Currently, nearly three-quarters of United’s international customers and 94 percent of U.S. domestic customers travel on an electronic ticket.
