Phoenix Visitors Benefits from Online Directory

(PRWEB) October 1, 2005 — Planning a trip to Phoenix and want to scout out things to do in the neighborhood where you’ll be staying? Research golf courses, restaurants, shopping, night clubs, sports teams and more with a new local online directory has been created to connect people in the greater Phoenix area via the Internet. Mark-Taylor Residential, Arizona’s leading developer of luxury apartment communities, created the search engine as a means of helping its new residents and visitors become acquainted with the area.

Mark-Taylor has been working with Vortaloptics, a Las Vegas a software development company that builds vertical search engines, to create a customized experience that is relevant to the greater Phoenix area. Localized search allows people to zero in on the businesses in their own community, compared to using Google or other major search engines where the results for a particular search could pull up business in Bangladesh or Paris, as well as Scottsdale, Arizona.

“If you live in or are planning a trip to Scottsdale you’re likely to seek your shopping, entertainment and professional services within a few square miles from home or where you’re staying,” said Prima Walker, director of marketing and public relations for Mark-Taylor Residential. “Our online directory pulls up the results based on specific Phoenix metropolitan area cities, such as Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale, Mesa, Paradise Valley, Phoenix, Scottsdale or Tempe,” said Walker.

A recently published Harris Interactive poll shows that 79 percent of new movers search the Internet for local maps and directions within a month of moving, and 64 percent look for movie theatres, bars and nightclubs, and 56 percent sought restaurant information. Another survey, completed by the Kelsey Group, revealed that 70 percent of U.S. households use the web to research information when shopping locally for products and services. The Internet has become the most efficient way to retrieve specific information about one’s local community, and by creating a tailored search engine, the results are much faster than flipping through the local phone book.

Adrian Tartler recognizes the importance of reaching those in the neighborhood. Tartler, who lives in a Mark-Taylor community called the Dakota, is also planning to advertise on the new search engine. “This is an affordable and highly targeted way for me to reach people in the neighborhood who may need the services my clinic provides,” said Tartler, who is opening Desert Cove Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy in North Scottsdale. “Living in a Mark-Taylor community, I know that everything the company does is top notch. They run a good show and I’m confident the online directory will embrace that same style,” he noted.

Website visitors may recommend businesses to be included on the online directory free of charge. Others may choose to have the broader exposure by advertising on the site. “Many businesses don’t have their own website, so this directory can provide them with an on-line presence. We can even create a special directory page that will provide more detailed information than the typical phone and address,” said Walker.

The online directory is located at http://www.mark-taylor.com/residents.htm.

Mark-Taylor Residential owns and/or manages 23 luxury apartment communities in the Phoenix metropolitan area and has developed more than 15,000 rental units in the southwest. Additional information on Mark-Taylor Residential is available at www.mark-taylor.com.
