United Airlines’ Chicago-Munich Service Takes Flight

New service supports business strategy of international expansion Strong bookings already bring load factor to high nineties

CHICAGO, June 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Today, United launches new daily nonstop service between Chicago O’Hare International Airport and Munich, Germany, expanding customer options to this exciting European gateway.

The new service is in addition to United’s existing daily Washington Dulles-Munich service. It also complements the Chicago-Munich codeshare flight and Washington Dulles-Munich service operated by Star Alliance partner Lufthansa.

“Expanding our service to Munich gives customers another excellent flight option to one of Germany’s main business centers and top tourist destinations and an additional convenient nonstop option to Europe. It also further strengthens our alliance network with Lufthansa, which offers connections from Munich to 35 cities within Europe,” said Graham Atkinson, senior vice president-Worldwide Sales and Alliances. “From a business perspective, the new service supports our strategy to increase international service where yields are strongest.”

United continues to see strong yields on its routes between the United States and Germany, including bookings bringing load factors to the high nineties for the new service.

The new route also provides additional cargo capacity between the United States and Europe — 14 metric tons of capacity in each direction, making for a 28-metric-ton capacity roundtrip between Chicago and Munich.

Flight 906 departs Chicago O’Hare at 5:50 p.m. today and is scheduled to arrive in Munich at 9:50 a.m. tomorrow, June 8. On June 8, Flight 907 begins service from Munich at 3:20 p.m. with an arrival time in Chicago of 6:15 p.m. the same day. United will operate the flights with a Boeing 767 aircraft that seats 193 passengers — 10 in United First, 32 in United Business and 151 in United Economy, including 71 in United Economy Plus(R).

The new Munich flight joins United’s nonstop daily service from its Chicago hub to the major European cities of Frankfurt, London, Paris and Amsterdam, as well as to other top destinations in Asia and Latin America. United’s nonstop service to Frankfurt includes two daily nonstop flights from both Chicago and Washington Dulles, and one daily nonstop from San Francisco. Now, United and Lufthansa together offer the most service between Chicago and Germany provided by any two carriers, at 47 weekly flights — including four daily to Frankfurt, two daily to Munich and five weekly to Duesseldorf.

United and its Star Alliance partners collectively offer 118 weekly flights from Chicago to Europe. Nonstop destinations include Amsterdam, Stockholm, Paris, Copenhagen, Duesseldorf, Frankfurt, Krawkow, London, Manchester, Munich and Warsaw.
